"Summertime Sadness" captures the bittersweet feeling of summer. The song is about how the narrator is feeling sad and lonely as summer is coming to an end. The chorus lines "Kiss me hard before you go/Summertime sadness/I just wanted you to know/That, baby, you the best" express the narrator's wish that someone could help her feel better and be with her during the summer, but saying goodbye and acknowledging that there will come a time when they will have to part.
