"Blank Space" is a darkly humorous love song about embracing the ups and downs of a romantic relationship. Taylor evokes a self-aware and empowered character who enjoys the thrill of love with someone who could be a great partner, but ultimately she's aware that it either could work out forever, or it could all come crumbling down in flames. She loves the game of relationships, recognizing that it's a cycle of breaking hearts and healing.
